The Issue:
We are following our dazzling and provocative issue on Monsters, with a provocation of a different sort. This is an issue featuring the work of five strong artists who are women. Lynda Benglis, radical since the 60’s, no less radical now; Dana Schutz, a young artist who consistently challenges what painting is in her strangely beautiful absurdist narratives; Erica Eyres, a former Winnipeg artist now Glasgow-based whose acute sensibility produces simultaneously aching, awkward and amusing videos, drawings and clay works; Tammi Campbell, a young Saskatchewan artist who addresses all the issues of Modernism in her work, making her own historic forebears such as Agnes Martin and Frank Stella; and Colleen Heslin whose beautiful paintings are hybrid forms on canvas, unique to her.
