Laura Poitras’ All the Beauty and the Bloodshed Wins Golden Lion in Venice

All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, Laura Poitras’ 2022 film chronicling the life and work of photographer Nan Goldin, has taken home the Golden Lion for best film at the 79th Venice International Film Festival.

Centring on Goldin’s protests against the Sackler family and their attempts to cover up their role in engineering the American opioid epidemic with handsome donations to art institutions, the film proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that “documentary is cinema” (Poitras).

In recognition of this occasion, Border Crossings’ full 2021 interview with Nan Goldin has been published online. Read it here.
