Venice: Special Issue Launch at the Canadian Pavilion
On May 31, 2013, Border Crossings traveled to Venice to launch a special issue of the magazine. Featuring an all-Canadian line up of artists - Shary Boyle, Julia Dault, Karel Funk, Tim Gardner, Sky Glabush, Sarah Anne Johnson, Michael Morris, Charles Stankievech, Beth Stuart, Jutai Toonoo, Janet Werner, among them.
Over 200 guests joined Border Crossings for a special opportunity to mingle with old friends, meet new people, and receive advance copies of the magazine. The reception was beautifully catered, providing contemporary Italian fare and of course, prosecco. Two of Canadian music’s most respected musicians, Steven Lambke (Baby Eagle) and John K Samson (the Weakerthans), held a very special performance. Shary Boyle toasted the poets who are her constant source of inspiration, and for us all as well.
Many of Canada’s finest artists, curators, gallery owners, and Directors were there to celebrate with us including A A Bronson, Marc Mayer (NGC), Sky Glabush, Josée Drouin-Brisebois (NGC), Geoffrey Farmer, Sarah Fillmore (AGNS), Jessica Eaton, Paul Butler, Kristan Horton, Geoffrey James, Jessica Bradley, Monica Tapp, Daina Augaitis (VAG), David Liss (MoCCA), and Dil Hildrebrand.
Border Crossings wishes to thank our generous event sponsors Michael Nesbitt, Manitoba Department of Culture, Heritage and Tourism, and the Manitoba Arts Council.
