Dreams and Narratives: Guy Maddin & Robert Enright in Conversation at Pages Unbound Festival
Border Crossings’ Senior Contributing Editor Robert Enright will interview Guy Maddin this Thursday, May 7 at 8:30pm as part of the Pages Unbound Festival in Toronto.
The topic of conversation will be Maddin’s unique narrative strategies and will explore “Maddin’s love of surrealism, decadent literature and early cinema [which] continues to influence his work. Featuring clips from Guy’s newest film, [The] Forbidden Room, this event will be an eye-opening experience for literature lovers, film connoisseurs, and storytellers alike.” (from Pages Unbound)
Event details and tickets available here.
Maddin’s latest film, directed with Evan Johnson, was reviewed by Robert Enright in Border Crossings Issue 132: Correspondences. The full review of The Forbidden Room can be read online here and was met with great reception at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year.
In addition to this latest work, recent celebrations include the induction of My Winnipeg, 2007, into the Criterion Collection in January 2015. Also in the Criterion is Maddin’s Brand upon the Brain!, 2006.
Border Crossings has covered Maddin’s work extensively over the years in the form of Borderviews, Essays, Fiction, Film Script, Interviews, Bordercolumns and Porfolios. It’s deep dark and thorough - sift through the Index to find out more and to purchase back issues for your own collection.
