This month, February 2024, Border Crossings is mounting a special online art auction. We are calling it a / Cross Canada Fundraising Auction in recognition of the broad range of contributing artists and the breadth the magazine has reflected in the course of its over forty years of publishing. All the artists on this illustrious list have appeared on the magazine’s pages and represent just some of the senior, mid-career and emerging artists with whom we have engaged in our decades-long history. Selected for this benefit event are artists whose work we have published, but long-time readers are familiar with our active practice of crossing geographic borders to look at relevant contemporary art well beyond.
In our 42nd year of publishing we are recognizing the generous response of the 53 artists included in this special event. We are reading the generosity of the artists as a tribute to Border Crossings and its role in the ongoing dialogue and query which is contemporary art. Please join us, the artists and their galleries. We are counting on the same generosity in your bidding on these significant art works as the artists have shown in their giving, all in support of the ongoing operations of Border Crossings.
The full list of artists whose work is being offered for purchase is above, all the works are accompanied by a thorough biography of each artist and a description of the works being offered.
Border Crossings is itself a geography, and published in Winnipeg— we are at Canada’s geographic centre. Now well into its fourth decade of publishing, the magazine has become something of a legend for its range, thoroughness, engagement with artists — their work and their words — and for its currency. We look out across the wide spaces of the prairies and have a clear vision and sighting on topics that are relevant, current and at the same time, of substantial and enduring interest. Border Crossings appears all over the world, from Korea to Chicago, from Halifax to Norway, from Montreal to LA and from New York to Paris and London. Readers order the magazine from literally all over the world. So, we can say, we are a geography of terrain and a geography of ideas because, in the magazine there are few borders and where they turn up, they are meant to be crossed — which we do.
We have always aspired to reciprocate the care and generosity of the artists and writers on our pages, and indicate our valuing you, our readers.
