Michael Snow, Border Crossings at the 25th New Music Festival

Exciting news! Following our participation in last year’s Winnipeg New Music Festival, Border Crossings has had the pleasure of producing another ISSUE with interviews focussing this year on four contemporary composers celebrated in the festival’s 25th year.

The festival formally starts this Saturday at the Centennial Concert Hall, where the magazine will have a table in the lobby for opening night, introducing guests to the new issue and to further conversation on the composers, their music, and their methods.

In addition, Border Crossings and our generous sponsor Tetrem Capital Management are bringing in artist Michael Snow (interviewed for and on the cover of ISSUE 136) for the Wednesday, January 27 performance. The evening’s programme will feature Michael Snow in conversation on stage with Robert Enright, followed by a screening of the filmed performance of his piano piece, “Snow in Vienna.” After this Border Crossings will be co-hosting a Launch party with the WSO for ISSUE 136 on the Piano Nobile.

The entire festival runs Saturday, January 23 - Friday, January 29 and includes, among much else, works by composers David Lang, Joan Tower and Barbara Monk Feldman, all of whom have been interviewed for our recently published Issue 136: “Son et Lumière.”

The full WNMF schedule is available here, tickets available for purchase here.

We sincerely hope you’ll join us for our Launch and Michael Snow events on Wednesday, January 27, as well as for the entire festival.
